AZMET’s Management Team collectively have over 5 decades of experience in the design
and implementation of mineral processing plants. Most of the studies and projects executed were across the African Continent with geographical footprint expansion into, but not limited to Turkey, South-America, Kazakhstan, Russia and Canada.
Our understanding of global standards, logistics and exports, complement our ability to successfully and competitively execute projects across the globe.

Barry Beylefeld, Managing Director, holds a degree in Extractive Metallurgy. He is also a member of SAIMM – South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and MMMA – Mining Metallurgical Management Association. Before joining the AZMET staff, Barry was General Manager – Process at SENET. He was lead process engineer during the execution of numerous studies and implementation projects with extensive experience in gold, silver, copper and zinc processing plants, which includes work in Burkina Faso, DRC, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Senegal and South Africa. His earlier professional background includes process plant design for MDM and Hatch Africa.
Braam Smit, Process Director, holds a degree in Extractive Metallurgy. He is also a member of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM). Before joining the AZMET staff, Braam was a Principle Process at SENET. He was lead process engineer during the execution of numerous studies and implementation projects with extensive experience in copper, gold, iron, base metals, tantalum and coal processing plants, which includes work in Burkina Faso, DRC, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kazakhstan, Sierra Leone and South Africa. His earlier professional background includes production for Anglo American – Coal Division.
Charl du Preez
Charl du Preez, Engineering Director, holds a degree in Extractive Metallurgy and a diploma in Management Development. He is registered as professional engineer. He is also a member of the South African Coal Processing Society (SACPS), Mining Metallurgical Management Association (MMMA), South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) and Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). Before joining the AZMET staff, Charl was a Principle Process at SENET. He was lead process engineer during the execution of numerous studies and implementation projects with extensive experience in copper, gold, iron, base metals, uranium and coal processing plants, which includes work in Angola, DRC, Egypt, Eritrea, Ivory Coast, Namibia, Senegal, South Africa, Spain and Sudan. His earlier professional background includes production for Anglo American – Coal Division.
Ruan Kukard, Director, holds a degree (B.ENG) in Chemical Engineering with specialisation in Mineral Extraction. Before joining the AZMET staff, Ruan was Senior Process Engineer at SENET. He was a senior process engineer during the execution of numerous studies with extensive experience in gold and base metal processing plants, which includes work in Ghana, Namibia and South Africa. His earlier professional background includes process engineering for SA Bioproducts, Process and Sales Engineering Manager for Delkor and Business Development Manager for Multotec.
